IPL 2018 - Series 1 (The Auction)

Vivo IPL 2018 started with the auction at Bengaluru. Already in our page we discussed about the details of retained players by each team and expected players for RTM.

A total of 580 have been finalised for auction which includes 361 Indian players both capped and uncapped. All the eight teams made a strategy to buy players. As per auction rules each team should buy a minimum of 18 players and maximum of 25 players within 60 crores allotted for them. In the team size foreign players count should not exceed 8. In the two days of auction totally 169 players sold including 56 overseas players.

Only CSK, DD, MI and SRH were the four teams picked the maximum number of players within the allotted money. These four teams managed 25 players within 60 crores out of this CSK still having 6.5Crs in their wallet. Next to them DD having 1.6 crores left and both MI, SRH having 65 lacs with them.

The Knight Riders spent the whole money from their wallet but managed to pick only 19 players. It shows they went costly for few players. Last 5 seasons they picked wisely and spent amount less to buy a player but this time their plan fails. RCB bought 24 players still having 15 lacs in their pocket. RR having 1.65 crores after buying 23 players in the auction. KXIP, the team raised hands for almost all the players picked only 21 players and one short of maximum number of overseas players. They are still having 10 lacs.

Here is the list of top buys in this IPL 2018 auction. Apart from retention players, the bid starts with Shikar Dhawan. But the top most buy was England allrounder Benjamin Stokes was picked by Rajastan Royals after the heavy bidding competition. They bought him for 12.5 Crores, no surprise he is one of the current best allrounder in the world.

And the second most expensive player is a shocking one, Jayadev Unadkat. He came for auction in day 2 only. But being a domestic fast bowler there is great demand for him between CSK and KXIP. At certain point CSK closed their bid, everyone thinking he will go for KXIP within a second RR raised their hands and picked him for 11.5 Crores, a bit expensive for him. Rajastan Royals only knows why they spent this much amount for Unadkat.

SRH bought Manish Pandey for 11Crores and KXIP bought KL Rahul for the same 11 Crores, both of them joins in the third most expensive player of this year auction. Where most of the young players got a good price in this auction. Few most wanted international players went unsold. Even Chris Gayle too, he went unsold for two times at last KXIP bought him at the time of auction ends.

Not only gayle players like Amla, Root, Malinga, Hazlewood, Morgan, Corey Anderson etc., went unsold. Their current form makes their selection questionable. But what about Joe root????? The British captain was well expertise in all three formats of cricket, still no teams didnt show their interest on him. The main reason for these top players unsold is their base price.

The base price for these players is almost 2Crores. So the teams thought to buy other young talent rather than spending this much amount to these out form players.

The worst thing in this auction is only one Srilankan player got selected for playing this year IPL. Akhila Dhananjaya was picked by Mumbai Indians. It refelcts the current situation of Srilankan cricket. But surprisingly four afghan players going to play in IPL 2018. They recently got eligible to play in International test matches. This will be a good sign for young afghan team.

Sandeep Lamichhane

One more good sign is first time in IPL history a nepal player going to play. Sandeep Lamichhane becomes the first nepali in IPL going to play for Delhi daredevils. We personally take a bow for DD coach Ricky ponting, who is the man behind his selection. Definitely selection of this guy reflects in the growth of cricket in Nepal.

Well in the upcoming series of the IPL 2018 we will discuss about each teams and their selection in IPL 2018. We have lot of interesting approach in decoding their chances to win the title. Stay tuned with our page.
